SHIFT offers two workshop models for teachers to learn to integrate the filmmaking process into core content instruction. Our workshop models include:
SHIFT LITE MODEL: The Lite Model is a three to five day training for K-12 teachers, specialists, and administrators to learn how to integrate the filmmaking process into core content instruction. Throughout the workshop, participants work in teams to produce a variety of short films, such as public service announcements (PSAs), documentaries, instructional videos, and personal narratives. Participants are trained on equipment they have access to in their schools, including Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, video and still cameras, and tripods.
Elements:
- Three to five day workshop for K-12 educators (individuals or teams).
- Comprehensive, standards-linked filmmaking curriculum guides that includes: units and lesson plans, rubrics, supplemental DVDs containing youth-produced media and instructional videos demonstrating filmmaking concepts, and other additional resources.
- Access to online resources and support.
- Participants may be eligible to receive credit upon successful completion of the Lite Model.
SHIFT INTENSIVE MODEL: The Intensive Model is a one or two year program for K-12 teachers, administrators, and specialists that begins with a three-day training, followed by additional trainings throughout the school year. During the year, educators implement filmmaking units aligned with standards, including personal narratives, instructional videos, public service announcements (PSAs), and documentaries.
Elements:
- Participant cohorts are comprised of school teams with an administrator. We recommend a team of four teachers from each school, in addition to an administrator, though neither are required.
- A three-day summer training followed by incremental trainings during the school year to support the process and ensure successful classroom integration.
- Comprehensive, standards-linked filmmaking curriculum guides that includes: units and lesson plans, rubrics, supplemental DVDs containing youth-produced media and instructional videos demonstrating filmmaking concepts, and other additional resources.
- Assurance participants have access to sufficient equipment for integration.
- Instructional and technical support provided by SHIFT staff during the school year.
- Access to online resources and support.
- Participants may be eligible to receive credit upon successful completion of the Intensive Model.
