Educational Videos Website

Posted by Emily in Teaching Resources , Classroom Examples

Reading through the iDEA website blog comments, I learned about a website posted by a teacher called neoK12.  NeoK12 a site with free educational videos, lessons, and games for K-12 students.

According to the site, all lessons and videos have been reviewed and screened by K-12 teachers.  Videos are divided into content areas including physical science, life science, earth and space, geography, human body, social studies, history, math, and English.  NeoK12 videos may give you and your students ideas for videos you could produce in your own classrooms.

If you need to convert any of the neoK12 videos into a format you can screen at school, ex: YouTube videos, Zamzar is a free online file conversion.

Enjoy!

Spy Hop Training

Posted by leddy_loo in iDEA , Classroom Examples

This week has been very insightful for me.  I have a renewed interest in getting my students involved in creating and making movies.  It will be great to integrate this knowledge into literacy and the sciences.  It will be a great technique for transferring knowledge and applying it. The conference has been an amazing tool to take back with me to my school and classroom!

Spy Hop Training

I have learned numerous techniques using the technology this week to take back to the classroom. This conference has changed the way I think about integrating technology. It's easier than I thought!!! The film making process itself can be tied into core content in almost every area. Learning is a step by step process that takes time and hard work, but the end result is something to be proud of! :)

New Video Samples

Posted by Jarrett in Classroom Examples

As I've been visiting classrooms these past few weeks, I've been able to pick up some completed projects, so I've uploaded a few to our video gallery that I'd like to share.

Cindy Howard's Math Movie. Cindy's used stop motion to help demonstrate multiplication techniques with her class.

Barb Curtis' Punctuation project.  With the help of the punctuation hero, Barb Curtis' class showed proper use of punctuation.

Catherine Hawkins' Lift Me Up. Part of the school's anti-bullying campaign, Catherine Hawkins created a short music video for a song.

Online Video Galleries

Posted by Jarrett in Video Projects , Teaching Resources , Classroom Examples

Following up from last weeks quarterly meeting, I wanted to post some online resources for video galleries. These can be used to show your students, or to help inspire you for ideas about your own projects.

The IVIE Awards out of San Diego is a great resource for high quality video content. This is the same website that has the two videos we watched at the meeting last week. You can find those here and here.  There are several great projects on this site, all of which come right out of the classroom.

The Apple Learning Interchange is a website that allows you to view numerous projects created in the classroom using various Apple products. The website allows you to search for projects by either topic or technology. To be honest, much of the video content here isn’t exactly “award winning,” but each video has an in-depth description about the process of creating it, so watching these projects should give you a good idea about what to bring into your classroom.

Finally, ListenUp is more than just a video gallery, it’s an entire media community for youth. This website feature many videos, including PSAs, documentaries, and even how-to videos. In addition to these videos, you can find links to additional youth media resources such as storytelling and postproduction tools.

New Films Uploaded to Video Gallery

Posted by Jarrett in Classroom Examples , 8 Shot Movie

Check out the video gallery to find some new films that have been recently uploaded. Head to the gallery section of the website and you can do a search for any of the following films:

John Kjar's Personal Narrative

Bruce Simpson's Book Talks

Barb Curtis' The Mysterious Egg

Steve Sagers' Magellan video

Drew Millerberg's 8 Shot Movies

These are only a  few examples of what's been uploaded so far. There are also plenty of other projects and lesson plans in our gallery as well. Take a look at some of these films if you'd like to get a sense of what teachers have created in past years. Additionally, if you have any completed films that you'd like to share with other teachers let me know and I'll be happy to upload them for you.

New to IDEA

Posted by choward in Teaching Resources , Classroom Examples

I have had so much fun making movies with my students.  It's amazing how fast they pick it up.  Now after every new concept I take them thru I hear "Can we make a movie of it?"  And now that they can do so much of it by themselves we have a few mini movies in production.  I have discovered a few things that make it easier for us.  One is a site called soundzabound.  It has all kinds of music that is easy to download and is free.  It is also approved by the school district, has no restrictions. My students actually know more about it than I do.  They use it all the time.

I also wanted to have all the movies on my edesk so students and parents would be able to view anytime.  But quickly found out it was not going to work, only room for about 3 short movies.  So I opened an account with TeacherTube, also free.  I now store all the movies there.  I just attached a link to my web site.  I have had parents comment on how much they enjoy watching them.  I also found many examples of all kinds of movies on TeacherTube.  Picked up a few ideas there.
